FAQs - IPinfo
Is any of the data in these products PII? How do you think about the relationship between IP addresses and PII?
While we acknowledge that IP addresses might be considered as personal data under relevant legal jurisdictions, it’s important to note that our services of internet mapping do not inherently yield specific individual information. Our datasets consist of mapped numerical values, similar to phone numbers within a directory, where these numerical labels lack the necessary intricate details for any individual identification. The small exception to this is the WHOIS POC data point, where we pull the publicly listed point of contact information from the WHOIS records.
We also don’t have access to additional contextual information from our customers either prior to or after using our service, which could aid in identification. Nonetheless, we are conscious of the relevant regulations and have put safeguards in place for situations involving the processing of PII.
