This guide will help you get comfortable exploring data on Dewey

Search by partner, category, or dataset information

From the home screen you can scroll through to review all of our data partners. Each card represents a different partner, when you select one, you'll be brought to a page with all datasets from that partner.

You can also search by data partner in the search bar, or select Show all products to filter by provider, data topics, and more.

Once you are on a data partner page (Advan, SafeGraph, etc.) you can review all of their datasets. Select one of these datasets to review in more detail.

Review a dataset

Each dataset has a unique page with information about that dataset and a menu to sample and access the data.

What's the difference between Available, Explore, and View-only?

  • Datasets with the [ ⬇️ Available ] icon signifies you can access that data product in its entirety.
  • If a dataset is marked [ 🔍 Explore ] then the dataset can be customized or filtered in the platform, or via API, to include only records you need for your research. You can also make use of the explore tab to do some quick visualizations.
  • If a dataset is marked [ 👀 View-only ] then you can review data product on the platform and download a sample. To gain access, you will need to become a Dewey subscriber or, in some cases, purchase a license for the dataset separately.

Package view

On a data product page, under the Package view you can review a summary, brief description, and sample usages. The About section provides metadata on the dataset.

The About section can provide:

  • Last update to the dataset under Last Refreshed
  • Review when the next update will be provided under Refresh Schedule
  • Support resources and extended license terms for that dataset

Profile view

The Profile view provides a more robust review of the dataset itself.

  • Under the Data Preview tab, you can review a 10 row sample of the dataset in tabular format.
  • For each features in the dataset, the Table Structure tab provides the:
    • Column description
    • Value type
    • Min/Max value
    • Number of unique values
    • % of rows populated
    • Example value

Explore view

In some instances, a data product will utilize the Explore tab. This tab provides visualizations of the dataset to help you understand its coverage and structure.

Download a Sample

Now that you've found a dataset that looks interesting for your research, you can select the Download Sample button to review a 100 row sample of the data. This can help you review the dataset structure, sample values, feature datatypes in more detail.

Still unsure if the coverage aligns with your research objective?

You can reach out to [email protected] to request a larger sample of the dataset on Dewey. This sample will include a more robust representation of the complete dataset.
