Ipinfo Residential Proxy

IPinfo Residential Proxy

Overview

IPinfo's Residential Proxy database identifies IP addresses being used as residential proxies, including mobile/carrier network proxies. [Source: Page 2, "Dataset description"] Unlike datacenter VPNs or standard proxies which are easily detectable, residential proxies utilize IP addresses from real residential networks (home internet connections) and mobile carriers, making them appear as legitimate user traffic while masking the true origin. [Source: Page 2, "Dataset description"] These sophisticated anonymization services are increasingly used for fraudulent activities, unauthorized data scraping, and various security threats. [Source: Page 2, "Dataset description"]

Residential proxies are particularly challenging to detect because they appear as normal user traffic from legitimate ISPs, allowing malicious actors to bypass traditional proxy/VPN detection. [Source: Page 2, "Dataset description"] The dataset provides researchers with a tool to identify and study these anonymization techniques and their associated patterns of usage.

Data Description

The dataset is structured at the individual IP address level, with one row per IP (IPv4 or IPv6 address) identified as a residential proxy. [Source: Page 2, "Observation Level"] Each record contains the following fields:

  • IP: IPv4 or IPv6 address identified as a residential proxy [Source: Page 2, "Observation Level"]
  • SERVICE: Name of the residential proxy service provider [Source: Page 2, "Observation Level"]
  • LAST_SEEN: Date when the IP was last observed as a residential proxy [Source: Page 2, "Observation Level"]
  • PERCENT_DAYS_SEEN: Percentage of days the IP was active as a residential proxy in the last 90 days [Source: Page 2, "Observation Level"]

Methodology

Residential proxy detection is a standalone dataset, separate from Privacy Detection. [Source: Page 2, "Collection Methodology"] The dataset uses different methodologies, data fields, and pipelines from other IPinfo products. [Source: Page 2, "Collection Methodology"] IPinfo processes terabytes of data using proprietary techniques to deliver enriched IP data sets. [Source: Page 1, "Company Description"]
