FAQs
Data Access
Is historical data available?
Yes. Once you are subscribed, you'll receive unlimited access to the available datasets. This includes a full history and access to new updates as we receive them.
Can I share data with other researchers?
Yes, but they must be included in your team or group license. This helps us keep the data affordable for academic use. You can read more about the data license in our subscriptions explained page.
Who should I invite to my team?
Invite your co-authors and collaborators who are either on your Dewey license with you, or those who you will likely be named on your published research that you want to share datasets with.
Can I just purchase a subset of data?
All data included in the Dewey platform must be accessed via a subscription. We do not offer discounted pricing for data subsets.
Are there limits to the number of datasets I can use?
No. As a paid Dewey subscriber you have unlimited access to the datasets included in the subscription.
How long do I have access to the data?
You will have data access for as long as you are a Dewey subscriber. Note that you will need to stay subscribed until your research has been submitted for publication if citing a Dewey data provider.
Data Sourcing
Does my research paper need approval from Dewey or their data partners?
No. But we love it when you share your paper (even if it's just a working paper) so that we can help promote it and share it with our data partners.
How can I address replication package requirements?
You can direct the publication to us here at Dewey. Once in contact with the publication, we can provide the resources needed to support your research.
Dewey Subscriptions
Do my co-author and research assistant also need a subscription?
Yes, we require the entire research team to be covered by a team license; this includes, but is not limited to research assistants, co-authors working exclusively in a theoretical nature, and principle investigators. After subscribing, a Dewey team member will reach out to get the names and emails of the other team members and add them to the account.
What should I do if my research team changes?
You can make changes to your team in the app if you are an Admin of your team. The data access permissions are associated with the team. Note that if you remove someone from your team, they no longer have permission to use the data under our terms and conditions.
Does Dewey provide university-wide licenses?
Yes. See a full list of subscribed departments and universities here. Consider this option if you know multiple researchers at your institution across teams will benefit from data access.
What happens if my university group subscribes after I've already subscribed?
If your university group quickly subscribes after you've subscribed, we're happy to assist by prorating your current subscription or applying the remaining amount towards the larger group subscription. We'll work with you to ensure a smooth transition!
What are the steps to unsubscribe?
To cancel your account, please reach out to the Dewey team. When you cancel your subscription, you will no longer have access to download data and are required to delete any previously downloaded data from your system. Please see our data terms for full details on terminating subscriptions.
What differentiates Dewey from similar competitors?
Dewey is the only platform of its kind that unlocks access to hundreds of commercial datasets with a single license, all in one place. Our coverage encompasses high-value sources popular among social science researchers, spanning consumer behavior, corporate insights, and location-based data. Every dataset is vetted for longitudinal depth, regular refreshes, and relevance to academic research. We offer a transparent subscription model, curated specifically for academia, all built on a modern platform that evolves with researcher needs.
Updated user experience
Dewey looks different, what changed?
A platform update was pushed June 30th, 2025. See the Changelog for a more detailed update.
Where did my data connections and deliveries go?
“My connections” and “My deliveries” are no longer needed as of June 30th, 2025. For paid Dewey subscribers, any datasets you previously accessed will appear in the Saved
tab under My Datasets
. Note this does not include any customized datasets and you will need to re-filter and save those.
Can I no longer download the data via Snowflake, S3, or SFTP?
Right now these options are still under construction. Bulk API is the primary way to access data. We will keep you updated as more options become available
