Democratizing access to research data is what Dewey does.

Founding story

Founded in August 2022, Dewey is dedicated to transforming how academic researchers access data.

Dewey was established by Evan Barry, who previously served as the VP of Marketing for a geolocation data provider. During his time there and the COVID-19 pandemic, the company's data became a crucial resource for academic researchers. In response to many requests, the company offered their data for free to aid in pandemic response. This move not only significantly boosted academic engagement but also increased the company's visibility and revealed a key challenge in the data industry: the complex and costly processes researchers face when accessing data.

To tackle this issue, Evan created Dewey to streamline the data acquisition process for academics. Dewey provides a subscription-based platform where researchers can easily access a range of datasets with favorable terms, pricing, and dedicated support. Meanwhile, data providers benefit from Dewey's management of their academic channel, which includes academic verification, licensing, data delivery, and support.

Dewey's mission is to enhance the accessibility of data for academic research and enrich the global knowledge base while ensuring that high-quality data providers thrive in this collaborative ecosystem. By being a part of our Dewey Community, whether as a data provider, researcher, or wider institutional partner, you are advancing the mission to make data more accessible for academic research.
