US Terminated Contracts

Overview

US Terminated Contracts is produced by TenderAlpha, which collects government contract award data from official government sources, covering awarded contracts since 2010 across more than 65 countries. Awarded companies are mapped to ticker symbols where publicly listed and to tax identifiers where private; TenderAlpha's feeds cover contract awards, US federal subcontracting, and derived indicators such as contract receivables, terminations, and country-level procurement aggregates.

This is a set of transaction-level records of terminated US federal procurement contracts from January 2010 to present: approximately 611,000 distinct termination transactions across roughly 47,000 direct awardee companies, of which about 1,400 firms — direct awardees or their corporate parents — are ticker-mapped, publicly listed companies. Each record pairs the termination event — termination type, dispatch date, and the USD obligation adjustment recorded at termination (negative values are deobligations) — with the contract's initial award: initial dispatch date, value of contract to date, potential value, and the scheduled contract end date at both award and termination. Records identify the contracting federal entity, the direct awardee, and the awardee's corporate parent, each with name, country, listing status, ticker symbol, stock exchange, and ISIN where applicable, alongside tender industry codes, title, and description. The ticker mapping supports event-study designs linking terminations to market outcomes, and the long panel supports research on procurement failure, contract renegotiation, and differences in contracting reliability across agencies and sectors.

Data Description

  • One row per termination transaction per mapped awardee corporate parent, keyed by TERMINATION_TRANSACTION_BIZPORTAL_ID. Approximately 611,000 distinct transactions; most map to a single parent and appear once.
  • Key fields: TENDER_BIZPORTAL_ID, TERMINATION_TRANSACTION_BIZPORTAL_ID, DIRECT_AWARDEE_BIZPORTAL_ID, AWARDEE_PARENT_BIZPORTAL_ID, TERMINATION_DATE_OF_DISPATCH.

Coverage

Termination transactions dispatched from January 2010 to present.

Methodology

Compiled by TenderAlpha from official US federal government procurement portals and linked to its US federal contract award data. Termination transactions are matched to the initial award and enriched with awardee and corporate-parent identification, including ticker mapping for publicly listed firms.

Additional Notes

About 13,400 termination transactions (approximately 2%) span multiple rows because the direct awardee maps to more than one corporate parent — deduplicate on TERMINATION_TRANSACTION_BIZPORTAL_ID for transaction-level counts. Deliveries can also contain a small share of fully duplicated rows (the initial history file carried approximately 1.5%); deduplicate on all columns where exact row counts matter. Ticker and ISIN mapping is present only for publicly listed awardees or parents.
