Summary of updated T&Cs (9/17/26)
We've updated our Terms and Conditions to clarify how Dewey and the data licensed through our platform can be used and shared as research tools and workflows continue to evolve.
You may be prompted to accept these new terms and conditions upon your next login to the Dewey platform. If you're a subscriber and do not accept these changes, the previously accepted terms will govern your usage, but your subscription will automatically terminate at the end of your current billing cycle.
These terms will not apply to users covered by agreements that are managed directly with your institution.
What's changed
AI tools New
Researchers can use AI tools with Dewey data if the tool doesn't train on the data and doesn't keep it beyond providing the service. University-licensed AI tools often qualify. Data in an AI tool is still covered by the license, including the rules on deleting data when the subscription ends.
Sharing raw data Refined
Still not allowed. The terms now name peer reviewers, editors, journals, replication packages, and supplementary materials explicitly, so the rule is clear during peer review. Summary results can still be published.
Citation Refined
In addition to crediting the data provider and Dewey with the provided DOI, authors should list their institution as their affiliation.
Keeping data after the subscription ends Refined
Previously, researchers could keep data for a paper submitted before the subscription ended until publication or two years later. Now, the project must also be marked Submitted on the Dewey platform before the subscription ends, and access ends if the paper is withdrawn or rejected with no chance to review and resubmit.
Benchmarking Expanded
Previously, researchers couldn't publish or share the results of comparing Dewey data with other sources. Now, comparing is allowed for internal research. The results still can't be published or shared beyond the license.
